Yeah, I know where that pain sits, Visar! ;-)
And no, I don't think that such scenes should only be captured under the strict technical premises. It's just weighing the importance of some overall look against some paricular details - so anything goes as long as it preserves the moods you talked about. My suggestion was rather a question out of curiosity - what would have been if?
But in general, just open the aperture as wide as it can get and go for it - many times, like for example here, a vaguie look turns better and stronger than a detaield sharp one.
Thanks a lot for the reply and the description of the situation in that place, which sounds pretty well known to me. You know, been there, shot similar images.
Cheers,
Nick

yes, a little focus would do Nick. it was hard to do it, you know, taking a shot as such in places where people are trying to avoid whatever pressure from everyday life, can cause them a pain in 'you know where'. i see in this bar so many tempteous scenes that convey stunning moods and yet i cannot do anything about it- first because it needs good objectives that i do not miss, but still have not some that would do at this minimal light, and also them subjects who as i said want to avoid any distracting eye/ observant to their deeds- but here, i could not resist posting this shot for all it conveys as you said and the others in their comments. do you think shots like this, that lack in technical sense to be succesful should not be posted, or is it enough what they do represent?
cheers, v.

The very coloring and "uncertainty" of the scene makes it look real, but then again not in that way of some certain bar and some certain person. It rather describes a situation that can be seen in many bars and with many persons. An abstraction from the special case - a generalisation of the situation. And much like in any abstraction, it only takes the absolutely necessary elements - those that remain the same always.
It is not the particular human being - we don't even see a face here. And it is not the particular dring, or the particular time of the day. It is only that "it's smoking, drinking, being in thoughts, or not thinking about anything at all". It is the action, the verb, that is impostant here, but not the substantive.
Technically, the perspective you chose helps very much to decouple from the particular and focus on the general. A very suggestive and silent image. I'd guess that some more focus on a single object could work well in the image too.
Cheers, whatever bar and whatever drink it might be!
Nick

Excellent shot, I like the diagonal way and also the way you 'use' the table and the top red element to 'frame' a black area with the silhouette of the face... excellent point of view and way...worths a lot that originality Visar! be well!

Very laid-back style here, I can almost hear silent jazz in the background and talk, Greeneye.
