Yes, the XTi is a step up from the XT entry level model of the Canon line. The latest one is the XSI which offers a live LCD view, but basically all are similar with slight differences (increased pixels for example and slight cosmetic changes).
Here's a link that really explains the hierarchy of the EOS naming convention.. the XT/XTI/XSI translate to 350D/400D/450D respectively under european convention...
