Very simple and clear. The black line at the horizon which separates the sky from the sea introduces a two-dimensional effect since it contains the highest contrast. It makes it look more like some abstract photograph. Lowering the contrast at the horizon will increase the apparent depth. Any opinions on this ?

ok... so now you have a new fan (me)!!!

One question though... the vignating around the corners...
Were they intentional? I took a shot with my Canon 28-135 IS USM lens once, and I had stacked on a screw on UV Filter, and then a polariser on the cokin mount... Unfortunately I got vignating on the corners of the photos that look like the ones you got... I found that by removing the UV filter the problem was solved (this occured only when I was at the 28mm end...). I'm just curious to see if that's what happened with you too...
