It is a very good wirk indeed, Carrie. Carefully composed and exposed also! I am especially glad to see that you did the not so typical approach of a macro with a wide angle, which demands most of the time a far superior technique just because it doesn't diffuse all the background into a homogenous softened out canvas like a "real" macro (or zoom) does.
Here the flower is the absolute protagonist but it is a protagonist in a scene, and not in vacuum. The definition of the flower is great in details and in texture except perhaps in its center where it seems to start getting out of your absolute DoF. I think that this together with a certain amount of lacking contrast and overexposure there weakened the details that could be well visible otherwise. (See attachment.) So, a bit of a narrower aperture and could help both to enlarge the DoF and to avoid the partial overexposure. Which doesn't mean at all that the image isn't good. Quite the contrary, except the few small problems it is just about great for me.
The background got exactly as much attention as it needed for building the good scene on which also depth and space are visible. So the flower is in real space and its special look achieves a good impact of a real world. No hollywoodian romantifications but rather a solid study in phtography.
