Kim: Correct this shot was on color neg film and within 30-45 minutes of the shot on transparency film. The sun had moved a little lower, providing better illumination of the top flower. The apparent difference in sharpness may be due more to film speed than film type. Color neg film was twiice as fast permitting faster shutter speed. There was a breeze and I had to wait several minutes between gusts to obtain both images. Same lens was used for both shots also.

So, if I understand, this was shot on colour neg. film and your other shot (quick id 15102) was shot on slide film... I have to say I like the colours on this one a whole lot more. It could be the lighting of the day, but this shot has a lot more detail and I enjoy it a lot more.

Toni: Thanks for the comments about fill light. I see your point but in this instance I was interested in caturing the kight coming thru the flowers and stem and I think fill with reflector would have diminished the effect. I wanted to capture the wonderful pink glow at the tops of the flowers and light passing thru the stem.

Bill, use the reflector to light the front of the flower, and the stem in particular. That is one thing I learned in the online class, is that you must light the different parts of the flower, and especially the stems. Work your position around the flower to find the best background, or improvise. I just happened to have a Day Lily I had dug up to transplant lying there, and pulled it into the background of my Bleeding Hearts. Do what it takes to make the image it's best.

Toni: Are you suggestinig a reflector to bounce some light into the darker backround on the left side of the image? Or into the black area on the upper left? or Both?

Great Balls of Color! Very nice. Watch your backgrounds carefully! A reflector on this would have made a world of difference.
