About	Donner Lake lies on the eastern side of Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of Northern California. It was near Donner Lake that the ill fated Donner Party camped during the winter of 1846 & 1847 when their covered wagon emmigration to California was stopped here by heavy snow. Rainbow Bridge on Old Donner Hwy 40 at the summit of Donner Pass (elev. 7,239 ft.), overlooking Donner Lake, was built in 1925 then replaced by Interstate 80 in the mid 60's. The angled line on the hillside to the left of the lake marks the route of I-80, the main east/west highway across the United States. The angled line to the right of the lake is the original trans-continental railway that is still in use today. The Old Donner Hwy is also part of the historic Lincoln Hwy which was America's first ever coast-to-coast highway.

Hi Randy, thanks so much for your nice comments and helpful suggestion. I thought about removing the orange sign also, but then decided to leave it in as this is more of a documentary shot rather than an artistic one (or perhaps I was just being lazy hehe). The sign simply reads "Narrow Bridge". It would not be difficult to remove. By the way, nice to meet you... I looked through your portfolio and saw several very interesting images.... and I enjoyed reading your "abouts". I will leave a few comments soon. All the best... Brigitte

Nice photo and you do very well with the documentary of your subjects. So many add no info with their photos. I was wondering, even tho it's obviously not far off the highway, I find one small detail ever so slightly standing out. The sign and the cars. You know I'm just being overly nit picky, but I was wondering how easy it would be to Photoshop out maybe just the orange sign. That way people would think you hiked a lot farther to get the photo. hee hee!
