Andre,
No didnt see Sopranos but it is what i experienced in my youth at my dad's farm. When they left in september or so we knew summer has come to an end.
I expect to see them here any day from now but did not spot them yet, in 2 weeks they'll be here !

Hi Wolf,
That sad feeling when birds leave their nests is something I think we all feel. If you ever saw the "Sopranos" tv series, even Tony Soprano was affected by that feeling when some ducks left his swimming pool, even though they were a nuisance at first. Human nature I guess.

It must be similar to the way we humans recognise our children, by sound looks, smell,dna, place. We had a nest "farm-swallows" in the barn and we heard the parents coming back from insect collecting and all beaks would open up wide hahahah. When a chick fell out of the nest we put it back, usually with succes unless the farm cat had seen it before us.
Lovely birds !
And i always felt sad when they were gone ..

Hi Wolf,
They are a lot of fun to watch. We have a huge flock of Cliff Swallows that nest under a low bridge over a nearby river. They take off together to hunt for food and come back to feed the screaming young ones. How they know which chicks are theirs, I don't know?

Glad you like it! I'm just trying for a sort of standard presentation for easy identification of the birds. I like this pose too.

I was pretty lucky. As you say these guys are extremely fast and skittish. I came across a male and female pair that let me get within about 50 feet of them. I probably disturbed their mating. I did get lots of great images of the male too before I left them up to their private buisness :)

I'm glad you like it. Normally I would post full colour for nature images, but I tried converting this one to B&W and it seemed to suit the image. I've attached a small colour version for reference.
