About Needed to use up the last of my slide film and thought to try some biking. The colours were a lot better with the Astia, as well as the clarity.

This is the very first shot that I took while attempting sports photography.

Great capture! I like the expression on his face. Good timing. I agree with Debbie, and a little less DOF could be desired.

Pretty good first attempt Kim. I'm wondering if a faster shutter speed, such as 125 or 250 at f/8, would have captured this a bit sharper? I'm thinking it would clarify the biker and blur out the rocks and grass? The fill flash that Terrence mentioned would probably be a great try out. I never even thought of fill flash for portraiture and outdoor shooting until Terrence mentioned it to me:)

Oops, I mean pre-meter. I'm sure you know what I meant! *grin*

Thank you Toni and Terrence for your critiques and comments. Next time Terrence I will try to pre-expose to soften those harsh lights.

Great action shot kim, but i'll give my general jive about harsh light, highlights, fill flash, etc. Highlights are a bit hot, I'd meter those before hand and preserve them in your exposure on the slide, and fill the difference. Not always practical I know~

Kim you are really good at this. You should submitt this to a sports magazine. I love the framing of the shot. Could not be better. I was just thinking how this would look if you had shot it from a much greater distance. You could call it "Ridge Runner!" Keep up the good work!
