Hi ya Debbie, I really like how the foreground is lit up, and right as the shadow falls on the ground the dog is there lit up. Very nice contrast.
Lol at the description.. if you can't scare 'em, look as cute as you possible can.
Bow Wow Wow.. GO Away.. oh wait.. she has a camera!! Look cute!

For sure, Debbie... you have to try things out! And I don't think it's bad composition this way, I just think those weeds are too overpowering. In other light, or a slighly different view on the dog, those weeds probably wouldn't have made a difference.

Hi Debbie, cute capture indeed. I like the crop that Kim illustrated as well. re compositon, look at it this way, in the cropped version, the dog may be central, but the main focus would be his little face, and where his face is, follows the rule of thirds....it gets complicated with composition - there are rules, but then rules are made to be broken or interpeted in different ways.

Thank you ladies for your comments. I had thought about going ahead and cropping the image. I had tried it both ways. The reason for leaving as is- I had "composed" this little guy like this because my son, the "real" photographer of the family:) is always telling me I need to work on composition-that I always put my subjects in the center. I kind of thought the extra grass gave the impression of being in the country? I do like the crop, tho; Kim. Like I said I had tried it your way and just decided to keep it this way:)

Ohhhhhhh, Debbie, I love this shot! I'd say the crop is perfect. Sets the scene. And sometimes you can get by with half full of subject, half with no subject. Here I think it works well.

Debbie, this is a precious capture. The only thing is, Kim is right, the dog is hitting the center of the image. I like Kim's crop. The weeds go great with the dog's hair!

Why is it that small dogs always bark the loudest?? *grin* I think that the dog kinda gets lost in this image, with the bright weeds on the right competing with him/her. I've included a crop that let more of him be seen, although it kinda loses the fact that he's hiding in the bushes. Not sure what else you could have tried, but I think you've done a nice job getting the expression! Dogs can change their moods so quickly!
