Hi Kim. The place is great and so the photos you can take from this place also great. Of caurse I like this one. The small rock land at the middle and with... wow... trees on it!!! THe mountain of the right look very nice with the green and the little snow. Perchaps the clarity can be little bit better I think. Using sharpness from Photo Shop (or other program like Corel Photo Paint) you can fix the clarity little bit.

Hi Kim. Nice to see this. When I was there, the water was completely frozen. I think this looks better ;).

I'm curious if you used a filter for this photo. I could be wrong, but it looks as if you used a Grad ND filter, to darken the sky. The tops of the mountains on the right are a bit darker than the rest, so it looks as if the dark part of the filter was over that. Also, the bottom part of the sky is quite a bit brighter. For a photo with a 'horizon' like this, a Grad ND filter is very difficult to use with good result. IF you used that, I would recommend a polariser. That will also darken the blues in the sky, but it will keep the clouds white and fluffy and it will saturate some of the colours and it can make the reflections in the water less harsh (if I'm telling you something you already know, sorry! :p). For the composition, I think that's very nice. It might have been interesting to add some foreground for extra sense of depth, but not necessarily.

Unfortunately, as you mentioned, the scanner didn't treat your photo very well. The photo is unsharp (don't know if it's only because of the scanner of course) and I think the colours could be better too. Try to win a lottery or something for a new scanner! :)

Regards!

hey kim
sick shot
just wish the tree's in the middle could have been lit up by some sunlight, but then they might fight for attention with the mountain on the right?
i don't have a clue :)
nice work. any more?

Yeah, John. Cold and warm at the same time, like many Canadian mountain experiences. I agree with all of the above comments. This shot feels longer than 28mm. An interesting, classic mountain photo, it feels like home. More detail in the distant rock face would have been a plus; likely present on the original slide.

Next on my list of things to buy is a better scanner. The slide is tack sharp, but on its transfer over here has lost a lot of detail. Thanks for the comments though!

Nicely composed, beautiful scene with a nice array of colors. It appears that most of your landscapes seem a bit soft on my screen Kim. I would guess that a better scanner would be the cure. Is the original of this sharp?? I would think so since you used a tripod. If so, then you know for sure it's the scanner. Still, this is a very nice shot.

I love visiting Lake Minnewanka. This photo brings back good memories! Was it a windy day? The trees on the island seem a little blurry (or maybe my eyes are just getting worse.) Regardless, a nice shot!
