John... a longer shutter speed is going to help. Slower speed film or digital settings help in capturing motion blur and light streaks. I think this exposure must have been 30 - 45 seconds. I'll keep an eye out for some similar shots from you.

I looked through a number of your shots and wanted to comment on more than just this one.

Great image. I want to try and do a similar shot from the Gig Harbor bridge that is under construction here in my area. I noticed that your shutter speed is not listed. Any recommendations to acheive headlights coming and tail lights going (two way traffic @ 55MPH)?

Thanks

WOW, this is often tried, but it rarely becomes such an outstanding image!!

With Velvia my guess would be this was somewhere between 15 and 30 seconds. I remember taking 30 second shots with Velvia that night, but can't remember if this is one of those images.

I like the vantage point as well - maybe it would be possible to incorporate the crossing roads as more graphical frame-elements of this image, perhaps giving them equal weight and let the city rise above that junction? All the color really helps this image too IMO.

Agree with David Yates on the two-street angle. For a second there I thought there were two pictures interposed, then realized it was one highway over the other. Most pictures have a focal point, while this one doesn't, but it works wonderfully nonetheless. Great color & sharpness for a night photo. I'm curious to know if you remember what the shutter time was.

Excellent night shot! I love the composition. You seemed to position yourself perfectly for the buildings and lanes to line up. Something a bit different from the often seen "flat" night shots of cityscapes.

I really like this. Great angles, and lighting. The grass shoulder on the lower right bothers me though. Nice work.

Nice composition- I like the angle created by the two streets which is echoed by the angle of the building in the forground.
