About	My youngest dog loves to find things and try to sneak them back in the house. This is a "cone" from a magnolia tree. I thought the red seeds were really striking, and I had been waiting for the perfect subject to try this technique to make it look like as though it were floating.

I guess "drop shadow" would be the correct name for it, but I think of something done in PS when I think of that name. This was done with the lighting...Everything you see, minus the frame, was/is actually on the original photo.
