This one was touch. The set early behind a bank of low clouds and made it difficult to take a good shot of the motion even with the 400 film. I focused on the leg of the cowboy and the belly of the bull. The rest of the bull and the cowboy are blurred with the motion. Does this work?
Dawn, my e-mail is: groffphoto@cox-internet.com. I'm like you, in that it took me forever to go to chat room, Usefilm Live and all that...I finally found both. "Good for me." I said to myself. Haven't joined in on anything yet, just looking to see how things work. I have a tendency to jump in both feet first, ask questions later. :) Not only has this site helped me to learn more and more about photography, I've learned to use the internet better, and I, more often, can look at a photo and see what was done to get this image . That's a good feeling, coz, before, a picture was a picture. I liked it or I didn't, and that's just a personal preference, now, I can look at photography more in the eye of a photographer. Still, much, much, much to learn, but gotta start somewhere.
Dawn, Blur in this kind of shot can work if you exagerate it enough to make it an effect. Use a slow shuuter speed and pan with the motion so the background blurs just try to pan with the rider, his face and torso will be sharp and everything else will blur. If you want to have the whole image sharp - try using 1/500th of a second or faster if you can - but a minimum of 1/500th is required to stop action on a really fast moving object. nice image though.
