Dina , Iits pretty cool with the canon system.
I set the exposure manually for the background.Easy enough point camera at background and set it by changing shutter and aperture until meter in camera say exposure is right.
Then turn on flash and it exposes the main focal point properly. I like it. very easy to use.

Yes,nice idea to tilt the horizon for effect,I think that the the flash's job was quite right. Why don't you give it a try sometimes to have your subject backlit and fill flash? It would give a nice halo to the hair. Just to experiment.... Many congrats! Antonella
