Dito for this one. Like the image before I see a square image where flanks of 'emptiness' are attached to great effect. This is super!

very interesting series - what i find ineresting in this image is that the square of wallpaper behind the chair appears to be held up by two largew pieces of tape -- almost looks like a composite image - again great work here. Kev

Interesting insight, Mark. I had no preconcieved ideas about photographing the "place"...but rather, kinda stumbled onto it. During, and after the experience, I realized that it was important to me...and that the experience was very emotional. There are so many ways that one can connect with such a place...so full of pain and anguish. Your approach is very direct, and allows the viewer to assess the scene and draw their own conclusions; VERY effective. I both admire your work, and commend you for capturing the deafening silence so damned well! ...Brad

Hi Brad
Thanks for your comments on my Tokanui series.
I checked out your Asylum work, very nice, it seems these places share a universal theme that is predominately dark. I find it hard to view them any other way. Even wandering the wards on a bright day it would seem the light struggled to even penetrate the windows.
I faced some of the same issues you had, especially the colour / B&W issues. Initially I shot on B&W but after reviewing my contact sheets I found that there was something missing. Then I came to realize it were the colours that were present that attracted me to photograph what lay before me so I decided to document the hospital in colour from that point on.
Interesting that you chose to include yourself in some of your images. I tried it myself but I found that people viewing them tended to comment on the fact that I was in the image and not on the place itself. The images just didn't communicate in the same way if I had my mug in them.
Regards Mark

Out of your whole series on this place- this is the winner. It tells the story of isolation and forgotten. BRAVO on this...wonderful
