I used the self timer to let me pick and aim the pointer for about 1 sec, then switched off and waited for the shot to complete.

So you held the laserpointer stable for 2.5 seconds? Bravo..;-) Great idea and nicely executed although the apple could have a little more 3d. it feels a bit flat now..
