About The view from the headland above Te Oka Bay on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. From here the next landfall is Chile. The water colour is influenced by Lake Ellesmere just a few kilometers to the South.

Humanity is there Rog. It usually is shown most by those that have very little to start with but when something like this happens the are prepare to share what little they have.
I guess it's the parable of the Widows Mite.

In the larger scheme of things we are just a dirty dark stain on the flypaper of the universe.

yeah this one is big alright always reminds us that no matter how close to perfection we think we are physics has a powerful overriding hand always waiting behind the curtain to remind us of this fragility and yet I was listening to an interview yesterday and they were saying that the govt suppression of the ?rebellion? in Ache was temporarily suspended but that when things returned to normal (whatever that means) that the fighting would continue?I mean sheeeshh why doesn?t ego like that get humbled I mean sheesh I shake my head and wonder.. what is it with this arrogance thing humanity ?humanity my bum talk about a misnomer

Thanks for the lyrics Rog. They hit the mark in light of the many lost souls now wandering the Indian Ocean. May they find solace in the rising and setting of the sun.

Regards and wishing you and your loved ones health & happiness in 05. Regards John

Great view with amazing colors. Very beautiful composition. The dark water at the horizon works great here.
Happy New Year

Thanks Tim. It was a day when a very strong southerly front moved onto NZ. The temperature dropped rapidly. One half of the sky was very dark and the other bright sunshine. The sort of conditions I prefer for landscape photography. I hope you & your family have a safe, prosperous New Year. Regards John

Absolutely beautiful, John. The soft layers of color are striking. Is the light there just so incredible, or is this technique? Both, I'm sure. Regardless, a fine eye, a beautiful place, and superb execution. Bravo.

he looked out and cast a knowing glance across this ocean this mighty water upon which a soul wandered like a wave that never reached a shore or a room full of pictures with no windows.. Pitcairn but a blip and Galapagos rendered to laboratorial curiosity typical of your surreal layering view of this world love it John love it...all this vision and me stranded in a small town ATB405 R

Hi John, first of all Merry Xmas and a happy new year. 2nd. Thanks for all your comments aand support during the year and of course for visiting my dad. 3rd I like this photo, the horizontal lines on the horizon are really adding tension to this. I know Ellesmere really well as i spent a summer there filming for tvnz, natural history unit. The film was called "Swan Lake" maybe you have seen it. All the best from Switzerland for 2005, your friend in the alps, not the southern alps :), Neil

Thanks for your comment Peta, make sure you bring warm cloths and your rain coat. This summer has to be one of the worst on record. Hopefully it will improve. Happy New Year. John
