The beauty of the digital darkroom is that you have the ability to explore and undo all or none of the steps along the way. Not possible with chemicals. I agree with the previous comment about having good art to start with. The framing and colors are nice and the effect is interesting. Just a tad more lifelike and a little less oil paint would have suited me but I still think the effects you used make for a a very pleasing scene. I have some similar shots of a hummer taken on a really overcast day with a 600mm mirror lens. I think I'l try to clean them up!

I like very much the pictorial variation of your hummer, which surely would be pleased Goethe, the lover of the nature in move. By the way, your Goethian motto is particularly pertinent. I suggest to integrate it with this remark of Mark Twain: Do not trust your eyes if your imagination is out of focus. Regards, Salvador

Hi Tim; I really like this! It has a very painterly quality to it (watercolor), but in addition the composition is excellent the subject nice, and the colors rich. Finally, the background is perfect for this treatment. Cheers. Craig

Thanks for commenting, Evelyn. This image began as a nearly black file. Highlight/Shadow, followed by Contrast, Saturation, Filters and a radical crop turned a throwaway (had it been a neg or slide) into what to me is an interesting sort of impressionistic piece. The magic of the digital darkroom continues to amaze me. Thanks for looking and contributing. Happy shooting!

I have found that generally you can't do good artwork if you didn't have good art to start out with. On the other hand, there are some shots that can be saved by the artwork. I don't know what your original started out looking like, but there is definitely enough contrast, color and form here to have a very pleasant picture.
