About Taken up in Flagstaff, Arizona while camping. Used the zoom feature on the camera, but had not learned to adjust to a higher resolution. This is a male Tiger Swallowtail butterfly and its wingspan was about 5.5". It was the largest butterfly that I had ever seen.

I think a Tiger Swallowtail is one of the most beautiful Butterflies. I understand computer problems. My husband bought me a new one a few months ago. It is supposed to smoke and probably would if I didn't have Service pack 2 on it. Good Luck with your puter problems, Regards, Ceceilia

Thanks Ceceilia for adding me as a new friend, and for your comments on this shot. Really got luck with this one - largest live butterfly I have even seen. Have been having computer problems is why I haven't replied sooner. Jan

Well Opal - your butterflies certainly won't move fasted that the speed of light - so you should be able to photograph them nicely. Perhaps you can have some mounted on long thin wire and use them for a photo shoot of some floral still-lifes. I have used some artificial butterflies in some silk floral arrangements (those puppies just get dusty) and they add a nice touch.

Margaret - I have your portfolio "bookmarked", and find myself going back frequently to admire your work. Thank you for your kinds remarks. I have been having fun, but have so much to learn. Then, of course, we are always in a learning "mode." Jan

Cheri - He moved around from flower to flower, but must have been really hungry as he fed for about 5 minutes or so. Just got lucky with this one - don't know how my camera was set (probably for people or landscapes as we were camping.) Sorry, about the only tip I can give is patience and take a lot of pictures You might want to ask Peter Daniel - he has done some wonderful closeups - what he would advise.

Wow, lovely image! Great macro look to it! I love butterflies but haven't been able to get any good shots yet. Did you have to be particularily quite or slow moving to capture him like this? Any tips?

Wonderful Photograph Janice, Great colors, clarity and Composition. Welcome to Usefilm....
You've done very good here with I presume new camera. I have trouble getting the butterflies to stay still long enough to get a shot.

Thanks for sharing?
Peter Daniel

P.S. Thanks for adding me to yourfriend list.

I think this is a wonderful picture and I don't think I am being biased just because you're my Mom! :)
