So Judi, this is like an asphalt, but not--is bitumen, which I just looked up, a by product of the mines. The coarseness of it I find interesting..it sets up in a smooth drivable surface. Like where is your focus point here please?
I grew up in the bituminous (soft coal) region of PA.
Is your area this or is it anthracite (hard coal)?

Thanks Roberto. They upgrade this road regularly because of all the trucks that travel along it. So the bitumen is usually well laid.

Fantastic shot. The 'gritty' perspective of the road contrasts with the dramatic sky and clouds. Feels really "Mad Max"! I can almost see Mel Gibson driving on the horizon!

When I saw it, I thought to myself, that people are going to think I added part of this image. I haven't and have the original if anyone wants to see it.

Awesome shot judi. I really love the unusual perspective and the 'possum-eye' view of the main road. the texture on the road surface is really striking.

One thought for you if I may... above the treeline on the left side of the road (and a little to those on the right)in your pic, there seems to be a very harsh edge left over from the processing. (between the treeline and the sky)
A *very subtle* touch up with a blur tool can soften that out without loosing any of the image clarity.
i give you an example of what I mean.

Hehehehe...I am too quick to allow a truck or car to get me. I haven't been playing with IR....although I would love to. I just duplicated the original layer and gave both of them a filter effect and then turned one to a blend mode and voila. This is the result.

It certainly would have been eternity if a bus or truck had come up behind you!!! Great shot Judi - this is a real snake eye view of the world... Very good DOF here too with good clarity from front to back of the image. The sky has a very dramatic feel to it as well.... One observation.... have you been playing with IR filters by any chance? It seems to have a very IR feel to it!
