Another one besides Wm. Eggleston is Douglas Kent Hall. He did a book called "Passing Through," Western Meditations of Douglas Kent Hall. Talk about impact!

I think the simplest and yet most difficult thing to do in photography (or in art for that matter)is what you just said:to have one's own unique signature in the work itself. "Be yourself." Okay, but now we get so self-conscious it gets watered down, or something. But when you tell a story, you get away from you, and that's good. Tell the story, get absorbed in it. That's what a good photograph does.

Thanks Mark! That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. I want my "voice" to come through in this, but also recently learned more about a photographer who has a similar style - William Eggleston (who just so happens is also from Memphis). I hope I can still make my photos unique from others but capture that essence of what life is like here. Southerners have a history of storytelling and I hope my photos do just that - tell a story. Your comment about my signature being in the photos is a great compliment to me - thank you very much.

Well so far, your Southern photodocumentary has your signature written in every photograph, especially this one. As you might already know, I'm partial to black & white photography, so this speaks to me. I like the motion blur; it's something I like to get with people doing things in the shot.

You're right Rafael, she could do it in her sleep. She cooks, cleans, gardens before most people wake up.

Alluring image of an ordinary event. I like the consistency in the composition, a complete natural scene. The lighting as it feels in any ordinary kitchen, the seemingly bored expression on her, oviously she does that all of the time, the ordinary items on teh counter, nothing in here feels "arranged" or preset. Beautiful work Andrea!!! -- Kind Regards, Rafael

That's a really good image that seems to be missing something technically. I bow to the moment thought.

I like the blur. It seems to indicate some quickness in contrast to her age. I can almost see an Eggleston flavor to this. Ordinary people doing things. I have seen his photos and I guess it is too late to see the film lol. I like the facial expression of her too. I plan to be downtown tomorrow too. Might try to photograph some people at Africa in April or some stuff in the South Main area.
