WOW, incredible colours! the contrast of the bright red on the darker background is excellent. After reading about this little guy, he seems pretty well armed to survive life... -- Kind regards, Rafael

Great image od a small beetle Jorg. To me it seems like a kind of a blister beetle (family Meloidae) and possibly the carpenter beetle (Synhoria sp.). The bright red colour warns any predator of a nasty smell or even potent toxicity. The blister beetles are well known for the nasty skin blisters they can cause when contact is made with the fluid they excretes when agitated. Death by accidental swallowing (e.g. within wild relish/spinach) has been reported in southern Africa. Kind regards Joggie

Wonderful macro shot, Jorg. It's a Lilioceris Lilii - a very greedy bug - I hate them :0). Regards Karen

What an awesome bug you found there .. the red colour and the green branch make for a superb shot .. fill flash was necessary because of the low light ? Peter
