Located 40km from the capital Hanoi, Duong Lam village can be reached by car after only one hour. The ancient village of Duong Lam in northern Ha Tay province has become the first village recognised as a national relic site. Tran Chien Thang, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information, made the announcement at a seminar jointly held by the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Department, Japan Foundation and Showa University. Participants at the seminar heard reports on the results of operations by experts from the Vietnam-Japan group who have been surveying and mapping tangible and intangible cultural assets in Duong Lam village last year. Duong Lam village has seven national relic sites with ancient houses, communal houses, temples and rituals. It still retains archaeological vestiges which give proof of the existence of an ethnic group in the area between 3,000-4,000 years ago.
