About I was set up just a little wrong and this little fellow was a bit out of frame. This is enlarged quite a bit, but the best I could do with my 18-70mm lens. The camera was on a tripod right next to the feeder and still I had to enlarge greatly, losing much detail. Anyway, today I've got a 70-210 lens and hummingbirds are high on my list of things to take a better shot of. This little bird went almost underneath the feeder to look at something and that is why he's at a strange angle and out of frame.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Ellen this shot was taken right by the humming bird feeder. The little guy went under the feeder for a moment to check something out. When looking and watching them, they do a manuver such as this so quickly that you can't even see it or don't even notice it with your eyes, but only capture it on film. Hummingbirds are fond of eating spiders and lots of times I think go under the feeder to check for spiders. The trick as with any shot of a moving critter is you want to zoom in close as possible to get as much detail as possible, but that increases your chances of shots like this. It's a learning process, but I was set up very poorly. Why did I have so much of the feeder showing? No one wants to see the feeder in a humming bird shot, but live and learn. I set up differently now, just having the tip of the feeder nozzle in the frame giving the hummer as much room as possible to move around and still not lose tips of wings, etc.

Again thank you everyone for your comments,

Dave

David this is a great catch. I'm wondering though could you hang or hold something in the area where they will fly and get a fixed focus and then just wait.
Mind you I have never done any of this kind of shooting before. I'm lucky if I can just see them let alone shoot one. lol

A little noisy, David, but a dramatic shot all the same.
Congratulations on your purchase!! I hope you enjoy your D70S!
