About When a large telescope is under construction, before everything is in place, but to show the world the direction that things are headed, they will take a 'first' photograph and publish the scopes 'first light' shot. That is what this is. I got my new lens Thursday and haven't really had much time with it yet, but man-oh-man what a difference a lens makes!!! Compare this to the other hummer shot I've posted with the 18-70mm lens. This is just a hummingbird snapshot. The composition is pretty bad, but WOW the improvement this lens (70-210mm) over the other. I was taking pictures last night at a softball game and I think the camera is still set at ISO 1600, but I am so tickled at the clarity I have here. This was hand held a little outside tha minimum focus range, with flash. The little bird covered more than half the frame, so little cropping was required. I am so excited. I've got to mow the lawn and then off to the game refuge. I told my wife not to expect me back till dark. I hope you enjoy this. I enjoyed taking it and am just fascinated about the shots to come. . .

I agree Hassan. I accidently left the camera set on ISO 1600 from taking night pictures the evening before. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you much Debbie, and Mervo, and Sam. Such beauty and wonder in these little birds. They are just a fascination to me. I have to decide whether to sit at home on my couch and shoot these little guys out the front window or go out to the nature refuge to shoot other critters. Decisions decisions. . .

Thanks again,

Dave

David - You did a remarkable job capturing this image - it is really beautiful. Hummingbirds move so quickly that's I'm always amazed when someone gets a shot of them. Congrats on this shot and the "new addition to the lens family." -- Debby

Thanks for that Carolyn. This lens is just fantastic. I've been going through the shots from this afternoon and I've got some that are just spooky good. I can't even touch them in the software editing program I have for fear of wrecking them. Please it isn't me. I just pointed the camera and shot the pictures. I'll be sending in a money order soon, so I'll be a donor and can upload more than one shot a day. I just had so much fun today. This is really neat.

Thanks for your comment. I had just a wonderful atfternoon of picture taking. I mean just an amazing time. I haven't seen them yet, but butterflies, dragonflies, birds, wasps, really nice afternoon, 225+ shots. It'll take me a while to go through them.
