The background is a desaturated & enlarged version of the foreground image, perhaps it was too unsaturated and lost the effect. I think you're right about the framing not working, I'll have another go at it.
Hey! I see you are having fun with your post processing,that is what i enjoy as well but as yet have not tried anything as ambitious as this,not sure about this one either does not quite gel for me,sorry!the two images appear as individuals,I would like to see them merge in some way,perhaps to have the second image in the same tones with an outer frame to hold it all together.This is just just my opinion and i may be quite wrong,keep at it you are doing well.
