Hi Malanie - I've been to Malta and I know you have some lovely flowers there. That flower has a beautiful shape - I find with my macro lens that its better to use a seperate light meter though. This shot is just a little over exposed I think - good first macro though!

Melanie - good first shot, but I agree with Eric on his crop suggestion - less on the right side of the shot and more on the left. Peter Daniels takes super flower shots and macros and his advice is really good - especially about the lighting on this one. His suggestions have helped me so much on camera settings, etc. You have a very nice portfolio and are getting out there and trying all different kinds of shots. I need to take a lesson out of your book and do the same thing. That's how we learn, and this is the site where you can get all sorts of helpful suggestions. Jan

Come inizio è niente male.

Welcome to the macro world, Melanie! This is great - you've captured wonderful detail on the flower and the leaves next to it.

Many thanks for your lovely and truly flattering comment on my "Reproduction".

Wonderful First Macro Photograph Melanie, Great Colors. Very well presented.
Try playing with your exposure settings to reduce the brightness. Here are some modes on your camera that you can change.

P/A/M/S menu options:
BRACKETING Set the step value for bracketing: 1/3EV, 1/2EV or 1.0EV
SHARPNESS Soft, Normal, Hard
WHITE BALANCE Auto, Fine, Shade, Fluorescent light (Daylight), Fluorescent light (Warm White), Fluorescent light (Cool White), Incandescent light

Don't be afraid to play with these settings. Digital "film" is cheap. I have several setting preset for specific shots. I've shot some with the white balance setting for "Fluorescent light" shooting outside and I got some good interesting shots...

Thanks for sharing,
GOD Bless...
Peter Daniel

This is a nice macro shot with beautiful colours. I would however personally have prefered to see more of the left part of the picture (which is now cropped). However, this is really a very good first macro shot! I look forward to see more macro shots from you in the future.

Regards,
Eric
