Wow, Pat! Thank you SO MUCH for the advice, and even more than that for the time that you took! I appreciate it SO MUCH!!! You are right...photography is addicting! I was just telling my husband this evening that it is so strange the way that you look at the world with completely different eyes when you start to carry a camera with you nearly all time. Everything that you look at becomes a possibility for a shot! Someday I would love to upgrade to an 8 megapixel camera. My sister has one, and she definitely has more capabilities than I do with 5. The S2 IS certainly is working for me at this level, though. Once again, thank you so much! It is soooo appreciated! Kathy

Hi Kathy, thank for your comment. I looked up your camera to see what it's capabilities are.
You are going to get the best performance out of that camera with is set to ISO 50 & 1600X1200 resolution. Of course these are also the hardest setting to use as far as speed of camera operation and shutter speed.
This particular shot looks as if you where hand holding the camera and got a little bit of camera shake. The rule is called, 1/focal length, what is ment by that is, if you are shooting with a 50mm lens the slowest shutter speed to hand hold is 1/50th sec. if 200mm lens then 1/200th sec. is the slowest you can hand hold. So be concious of you zoom settings and you end up in a situation where you have to use a shutter that is too slow to hand hold, look for a way to steady your camera or use a tripod.
Back to image size. Capture large images and be careful when re sizing images with your computer, It is allway better to down size the image than to up size or, up sample the image.
You really do have a great eye for composition! I know you spent quite a bit for the S2 IS, but you may want to move up to 8 mega pixcels or larger as time goes on.. Photography is addicting...
Allways strive for ISO 50 & 1600X1200 and then only adjust your ISO up when you absolutly have to and only reduce your image size down from 1600X1200 when storage space is an issue..
Take some still life shots at ISO 50 and hi res and then work your down to the least optimum settings, ISO 400 and 640 x 480, and see the difference for yourself. You will get use to what to expect from the way you set up your camera...
Most of all... Have Fun! :-)

Never would have come up with that spelling! I like it despite the softness. It's such a great expression I'm glad you posted it. He's a character!
