Hi Susie! Never seen this kind of gradually fading colour, and I love it! At least in this picture, with "fading summer" it suits very well. Love her expression, so natural. Excellent work!

Hi Susie,
I had a feeling that's what you meant, and I hope I didn't come across as too preachy. :)

It really is amazing, knowing what you know now about images, you can go back to some of those old "blurry" shots with a whole different perspective. Try scanning, re-cropping and toning and you will be delighted with some of them.

Thank you so much for your insight Andre. I would never ever throw away treasures from the past. I guess what I meant was that my cheesy equipment at the time didn't allow me to focus on ANYTHING so the whole photo was a blur. Know what I mean? But I will hold on to those photos and memories as long as I'm able.
It's so much fun to learn to take photographs. The more I learn...the more I realize that I don't know! :)
I appreciate your input. I'm going to mark you as an associate so I can watch your work and learn from you.
Happy shooting!
Susie

Susie,
A wonderful image that reflects the mood of the title perfectly! The colour/B&W mix is subtle in this case and works well!

I was reading your bio and something jumped out at me. Maybe I'm reading too much into this but I was a little concerned when you stated that you were always interested in photography but a lot of your snapshots were terrible. (something like that)
Anyway, my advise to you is... never underestimate the power of a "terrible snapshot" One thing I remember from one of my Photo arts courses, many years ago was when one of the instructors told the class. "Never, what ever you do, throw any snapshots away! No matter how bad you might think they are. They are a part of your life!" He went on to say, "Don't be afraid to throw out a lot of your pretentious "arty" images that don't turn out right. But please keep your snapshots!"
I will never forget that. and if it were not for him, I probably would not have had the pleasure of working with some of these images.
"Motorcycle Diaries" "Dad's First Car" "On The Side Of The Road"
The older you get, the more you will treasure your "terrible" snapshots.

Neat idea for this shot. Great colors in the center part of the photo. Neat pose as well. She looks completely absorbed by what she's doing and she's not paying any attention to you, the photographer. Those are sometimes the best pictures.

i would tick off "color" in the choice box since it is not like a true B/W with tonal range...this is different from a regular desat and interesting...like the comp and she looks unaware of you which is always good for candids...love that touch of turquoise....regards,gayle

Hi Elizabeth,
This is a technique I learned from Photoshopelementsuser.com and I modified it a little (like I do everything!) It's based around making selections and adding drop shadows and using the hue/saturation tool, etc. I thought it was kinda fun.
You're right, it wouldn't work with very many things, but I'll try to come up with something...:)
Have a great weekend!

Interesting! I can't imagine this working with any other photo, but I know you'll prove that theory wrong. Are you using paint or the eraser tools or something else entirely? Very creative!

Hi Susie, this is a really cute shot, the lighting and tones are perfect, she looks so content playing in the sand, This is almost like a candid shot as she is paying no attention to the camera, I think thats what makes is so nice.. really well done.

Susie, this is great work. The effect makes her appear as though she's coming through the photo. Love that there's motion as she plays with the sand too.

I think you have it the most appropriate category :)

It's wonderfully creative and executed beautifully. Stunning...

Hi Susie, I got a little break and wanted to comment on your new technique: I love it! Very good effect with this light colored subject, it would be interesting to see how it works with a more color saturated/ darker subject & bckgrd. This one is great because it emphasizes the face, and it works very well. And your cute niece belongs in the color category, I think. Wonderful! Ina
