About
This summer, I also tried my hand at raising Black Swallowtail Butterflies (Papilio polyxenes Fabricius), for a fun-filled biology summer project with my kids. It was a grand success just like my last year project with Monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus): http://www.usefilm.com/image/556299.html. These caterpillars were found feasting on the Cilantro inflorescenses in the kitchen garden of a good friend. Because of our annual summer event, my retired friend also turned into (my local supplier) and an amateur Lepidopterist now :)! In a matter of three weeks, we observed the voraciously feeding caterpillars turn into Chrysali and then, out emerged the brilliant butterflies for our photographic delight. Continuing to enjoy the Marvels of Metamorphosis in Nature as always, and I hope you do the same.......
great composition have not seen those black ones here. I dont think I can keep my swallowtail alive for long. How long do they live as a butterfly anyway? I dont know. Cheers Guido
