I agree, I don't know how they do it, but I can get good results down as low as 1/15 sec. without a tripod, with my 18-200 VR. Try that with the 300 non VR with a TC and you would have to be extremely lucky to get anything decent out of it.

I think the VRII is a major advantage when out there with the TC17. If I were using the 300 f/4 and TC17, it is unlikely that I could pull off this shot without tripod at 1/400.

Looks fine to me Eb!
I find I only run into problems with the TC14 on my 300mm is when the light gets too low to keep the shutter speed fast. Otherwise, I sometimes use a monopod and sometimes hand hold. To tell you the truth, I can't tell much differance in the sharpness.

Hi Kes! Thanks for commenting. The lighting of the rose stayed the same and only background changed. Maybe there was a bit of camera movement between takes. Someone has suggested that floral backgrounds should be dark. I don't see why and wonder what others may think.
