Natalie -- You know I love this picture, right? I stare at it in the living room. I can feel the movement of the bullfight, and I like that the colors are blurred just enough to make it interesting to stare. --Jamie

Natalie -- The leaves in this image are fabulous... very painterly. I find myself getting lost in the colors. Looks a lot like watercolor. I might crop the bottom a bit, but you know me, I'm into cropping. --Jamie

If a ghost appeared for a portrait session, I would not be sticking around with my Holga to take that picture.

Interesting photo. Take a picture like this of and old house and one would think that a ghost could appear at any moment.

You and a Holga, were made for each other. I really like what you do with one.

The imprinting from the light leak is very cool.

Natalie...thanks for clearing up the vignetting and the soft focus problem which I didnt realize were characteristic of a Holga camera.
But all the suggestions I made on composition in the second paragraph still stand regardless what camera a person may choose to use.....*smile*....Maggie

Maggie, thanks for your comments. Have you ever heard of the Holga camera? I think not. There is nothing wrong with the pic, at least technically. My scanner is fine, thank you. check out www.holga.com. Also, look at the toy camera category. There are lots of soft, crooked pics there. --Natalie

Hi Natalie...you have vignetting on the corners of this image...did you use a lens hood that wasnt the proper size for the lens or was this done on purpose? The image also looks to be a bit soft...but thats possibly a scanning problem.

Your idea here is a good one but there are a couple of things I would like to suggest for next time you are out shooting. Take time to make sure your horizons are straight and if you dont have anything interesting in the sky try to eliminate as much of it as possible. In this image the sand has lots of patterns and texture in it...I think if you had gotten closer to your subject then angled your camera down to get more of the sand and less sky you would have gotten a stonger image. Hope these suggestions help.....keep posting...Maggie *smile*

Hi,

As I mentioned...., it may be because i havent seen your pictures other than from a holga,..but i see an underlying theme for your pictures...and though your subjects wouldnt ordinarily...be considered..very photogenic...i see..you relying heavily on composition to make them interesting...
i mean from the toy camera project...i definitely see a strong link between your images..., as i also see in images made by antonio..

Thanks, Sai. You've mentioned my style before. What do you think my style is? I feel like I don't have one. I just shoot what I want...things I like.

This is a cool shot. If it was me, I would try to burn in the sky on the right a little.

But hey..it IS only a toy camera...

Sai, I agree. There is some inherent quality to this image. Maybe it the "break the rules" results that the Holgas tend to exhibit.

I like the overexposed areas on the right and the underexposed areas on the left. There's a balance.

Good job, Natalie.

Nice shot considering you hand held it for 8 seconds. Imagine how sharp it these images can be when you tape the camera to something solid - even a make shift tripod. You're on the right track for sure.

I don't think that a camera that can be purchased through B&H counts as a "toy." ~ I think the Holgas are becoming so popular that they have to be considered a legitimate tool. A professional medium format camera for $20 !?!?! Excellent !!! I want one !!!

I like this one. I would print it down a bit, let the shadow areas go black and get the visible areas outside the structure into the middle range, as right now they look blown out. I would also try shooting it after sunset to see if you can get everything within range. Composition-wise, my eye is more drawn to the right than the left, I want to see what's out there. There's a lot you could do with this setting.

When they work those Holgas can sure make anything seem like a magic, faded moment etched as a pleasant memory.
