Great study of human expression! If the DoF included his hand at the foreground it would be much stronger, but I am afraid that this would require an aperture too narrow for a short exposition time, resulting in motion blur. Well, you did the best possible, Marc!

Best wishes,

Nick

I would prefer more DoF ans sharper focus, Marc, but your composition is indeed nice.

Keep it up,

Nick

Definitely a very nice idea, Marc, that has something very individual. I really don't know if it would perhaps need a bit more sharpness, but this image is very hard for critiques, since it doesn't fit in any usual "rule group". But perhaps this is why it is so intriguing.

Best wishes,

Nick

excellent DOF, putting the attention to what's important in this picture: the climber's hold on the rock.

You do what you can with a 50 mm lens...shots looking downwards like this seem to be the only ones that seem to work well for me with landscapes. I wish I had a good wide angle...but it's a bit pricey. Know anyone selling a good Canon L series wide angle lens for cheap? :-)

LOL! I like this image! I owned the old beetle and I miss it, but that toilet in the middle kinda ruins the nostalgia....
Good capture nonetheless.

Very cool shot, love the expression on the man's face as though the statue was talking to him, I would have been tempted to clone out the water bottle

Very well seen, Marc! An amazing contrast between the man's demeanor and expression, compared to the lighthearted statue, even down to the opposite way they're wearing their caps.

Nice perspective. It makes me feel like I'm laying amongst everything (as I'm sure you had to to take the shot). I don't know if you do any PS work, but I think the colors could use some saturation.

I think this is a beautifully well-rounded photo. The colors are as good as possible given the subject (dirt). I like the framing of the picture as the eye is drawn from one side to the other, somewhat like the water as it makes its path downward. Nicely done.

Marc: Siena is a lovely city. We drove down there from Florence last October and spent the day. This lovely image reminds me so much of all the wonderfully complex and steep passageways there.

Interesting photo of the mud and water. There is a light area on the top left, which draws my attention. The colors are bland IMO. Perhaps this would work in monochrome?
