L'avrei fatto in bianco nero. Il titolo fa senso. Io non la chiamerei "Still Life". In somma, e' una bellissima immagine.

Luisa: You captured a very cute expression of the little cute girl. I cannot help smiling when I look at this image.
Credo che se l'avessi fatta in bianco/nero, avresti fatto una immagine piu' impressionante. Sei molto brava! I miei complimenti.

Anindya, thanks for your comments and encouragement. Indeed, I also used side lights (strobes), but my employer did not like it. However, I liked it better because it gave a bit of reflection on the needle suggesting its material (steel). Well, what can I do

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I did photograph them diving, but since I was using the converter (2X Pentax Converter), it became blurry. I used Provia 400 ISO for the diving image wit 80-320mm Pentax Zoom lens + 2XS Pentax Converter. However, I photographed grey seals several times, and one of them turned out right (Provia 400, 80-320mm Lens + Converter). I photographed the above mentioned animals while on a touring boat. This is why it was very difficult given the boat's motion.

Very beautiful like your other images. Unfortunately, my lenses (80-320 Penatx FA, and 2X Pentax Convertor) are not good enough for wildlife photography, as I loose two stops with the duplicator. Do you mind taking a look at my latest wildlife image for which I used the zoom lens without the convertor, because I was very close to the birds (Norther Gannets, http://www.usefilm.com/showphoto.php?id=25034). I appreciate your comments on the image.

They enjoyed being photographed, and I enjoyed photographing them. My wife and I stepped to the bus and tried to communicate (we speak Italian, our second language, which is close to Spanish). Our trip was very enjoyable, because we did not limited ourselves to the beach, but we walked through the city (Varadero, Matanzas, Quama) and interacted with people.

Ramiro: Maybe so, as it was midday. But this is not what I meant by the title. Just look at the wall and the cuban passing by. However, you as a Cuban you know better than me. I just have sympathy for that nation in an apolitical way.

Hi Chris,
You are right about DOF. When I saw these kids, I did not have time to change DOF and the f stop was on 4.5. Yesterday (June 10, 2002), I printed this and other images on B/W paper. I burned the image and more details of the wall and a graffiti on it have come out (not shown here). Honestly, I do not like digitized images, and the real photograph for me is the one printed on a photographic paper. Anyway, I agree with both aspects of your critique. Please view my images again, I appreciate your opinion.

Thanks for your comment Koen. The lighting was extremely contrasty. The image you see here is scanned directly from the negative. I personally am not a big fan of digitization of images at this point. I am sure when I print the image myself in the darkroom, I can play with the tones and even create a sharper image. Thanks again for the comment.

A very good image. I usually use B/W film for this type of photography. You can also gray scale this image in Photoshop to see the difference, as the colors are usually distracting in such interesting images. Here the subject's behaviour is more important than the colourfull objects surrounding her.

Hi Steve. I like your work so much that I cannot help asking you questions. How did you manage to capture such a sharp image with a such a slow slide film (Vevlia 50 ISO) and such a long lens (500 mm)? I am puzzled. I use 80mm-320mm Pentax Zoom Lens and 2 X S Converter, and if I used any slide film slower than 400 in similar situations, I would get blurry image.

Hi. The purpose of this image is merely informing the viewer of what happened that day regardless of my personal political views. However, I should say that I am against the increase in class size, but I am not against a writing test provided that proper courses and opportunities are given to the student before being tested for it. Since I did not get my high school education in Canada, I am not sure how adequate the courses are. If the courses are fairly good for the student, then why they have problem writing? Please keep giving me your critiques.

Hi Marc. The 2 X S converter duplicates the focal length. Since I used a 320 mm zoom lens with converter, the resulting focal lenght was 640 mm. The downside to it is that I loose two stops, and this is why I use a 400 ISO slide. I did not use a tripod at that time. The original slide is sharper than this scanned image, ie, the animal's eye is seen better in the slide than here. I went to Metro Zoo last Saturday. It was pleasantly cool and sunny. I was testing Provia 100 F, which I have not finished yet. I used a tripod (Slik + Manfrotto Head Gear) and 80mm-320 mm Pentax zoom lens + the Pentax Converter. Thus, the 100 ISO slide behaved like a 50 ISO film. I took only 14 out of 36 slides and used a flash at times. I used my MZ-S, which I purchased two days before going to the Zoo. So, I was testing my new camera too. I have become very meticulous in taking pictures. When I started photography, I used to take lots of pictures carelessly. Now, it takes me sometime before finishing a film.
Thanks for your comment.

Daniel - Thanks for your comment. I do agree with you about the space. I was trying to fill the frame with the subject. But, as you say, I should have left a bit of space above the animal's head. Thanks a gain for your critique.

This is an image that should go on a calendar. Four of the leaves have been cropped. But I think in such situations it is very difficult to include all the subjects into the frame.

Steve, this is very beautiful like all other images you have created. I have a question and I hope you do not mind answering it. When you want to print your slides, what kind of print do you prefer: Cibachrome, or high quality inkjet printer (the ones used by professional photoshops)? I usually have my slides (6 x 4.5 cm medium format and 35 mm) printed on cibachrome paper. But they always become contrasty and darker than the slides. I am never happy with the prints although I like the slides. What is your suggestion? Thanks a lot.
