I was about to comment on how flat the exposure range was, until I read the explanation. Pretty cool!

Rachel - thanks for your comments about my portfolio, although I feel I'm still blushing.
This is a nice shot with great colors. One thing to remember about macro - if possible, try to have the front of the lens parallel to the subject. But, you might not have been able to do this since you were only 2 inches away. If the front of the lens had been // to the bee, you wouldn't get a sharply focused head with a less sharply focused tail - as it is here.

A double exposure with film? (versus a photo editor) I really like this and it makes a compelling thumbnail also. I like the clarity of all the details. You have been very creative here and I think it works well. Great job!

Crop out that double in the reflection and fill it with similar dark background. In my opinion, the sunglasses gotta go, it blocked the nice feel from the spike hair. Try and experiment tilting the image 2~5 degree clock-wise then, re-crop to see if it will better fit (or not) your "style"

Makes me kind or wonder, why? So hard, the camera's gaze. Must be good. Certainly, the chilly still life in the context of movement is an achievement.

Hi Rachel!
Nice pic nut the slight motion blur you have there spoils it as a "commercial" shot and is not strong enough on the other side to push it into abstracts!
Tripod maybe? Greetings, Oliver

the play with lighting works very well here. the only thing i'd like to see different is to have the grille cropped out of the bottom right corner. otherwise, good shot.

Rachel,
This shot is ok but the lighting seems a bit harsh. Maybe use a defuser over your flash.

Rachel, I think this is a good image. The lines works well. Only slight nit, is the fact that it looks a little soft, but that could be the scan.

It seems here that your exposure is a little off. You also might want to crop out those street lights at the bottom

The use of a red filter with color film could have been a great idea to reproduce gig-scene lightings but unfortunately the pic here needs more contrast and detail.
What needs definitely some improvement is the attitude of your subjects : Not even one is looking at you, and the closest performer is even showing his back to you...
If the subject of your photograph is your friends's band, try to catch their expressions at the right time. Obsverve their eyes and fire the shutter when you feel it's nice, but be patient. Band performers usually have great attitude and strong expressions when they sing and perform, but it needs some time to capture them.
Good luck!

I do truely like this photo. It's seems to me to be very natural and shot on the moment. I agree that the background does take a little from the shot, but all in all, a very nice pic. Good work.

I would try vertical instead of horizontal and focus on them holding hands. Just a thought came to me....A vertical side view of these two holding hands and at a lower angle focusing on the hands more, looking out of the frame of the picture not at the camera so much. I guess I see it, but not sure if I explained it good enough though. I hope I helped you?
