Great image to be found outside any window.Perhaps the right side needs to be cropped a little.

i like this picture, except for the extent of black on the bottom right of this picture. perhaps you could try cropping a bit of it out?

Beautiful subtlety. I really like this image. The only thing that my eyes don't like are the sharp black pixels around the tree branches. Maybe this is a by-product of the PS histogram-eq. The black areas of the tree trunk also seem to be a tad dark too. Otherwise, this image has a really nice feel to it.

The colors look a little washed out -- needs some contrast. The purple flowers in the background are a little distracting. I think this would have worked better had you used a longer setting on your zoom lens to cut out more of the background.
There's a book, "Closeups in Nature" by John Shaw that would be really helpful. It should be in almost any public library in the US. The equipment used is a bit dated but the techniques still work.

You can see the mirror image of yours among my new photographs. I had mentioned it in my first comment.

I do appreciate this--just learning the 'stops' is taking quite a bit! but I am determined to learn this so I can concentrate of photography more! I do have a fuji s602zoom now so I can learn the manual side of it and have more control--also just a little scary. Thanks again.

nicely captured Barbara, I like the composition and the sharpness of pretty good. I wonder if increasing the contrast slightly would make the image pop a little more.

Basically a nice capture. It appears to me that you probably didn't get the blue in the water yhat you were looking for because the photo is underexposed about 1/3 of a stop. Try reading the exposure off the water instead of the Swan and that should work. Also I'd like to see a bit more room in front of the Swan to make him a bit less centered and to put some motion into the capture. Just minor nits. Otherwise well done.

Cemal, I would like the link to your tut. when you post it ( I have PSP 7 ).
I see what you mean, Greg. I did not pay attention to the reflection and didn't realize it would stand out so much--was going for the whole bird as he was really moving along!
Thank you both for taking the time to help me out.

It is uncanny, I have an image that is extremely similar to yours. It was exciting to see it pedal so fast, sinking the front below water level. I took mine in a cove near my house and it is swimming at a slightly different angle.
If you use Photoshop or a similar editing program, I will be happy to share a technique that will make the lake almost as blue as you saw. I am in the process of editing the tutorial to post it to my photo site. I will let you know when it is up if you wish.
Great birds, nice photo.

Nice composition.. Just one small point, I would have tried to get the main point of focus on the orange part of the flower. Other than that, this is a nice photo.

thank you Ivan. I did use a tripod (trying to form good habits now) but I used an auto setting and the wind was causing too much movement--obviously I need to change the shutter speed to freeze the movement! And, I totally agree about the DOF. I will do better, thanks again.

Try to find a spot where you can minimize movement of your camera (use tripod) and play with Aperture. Sharpness is always a plus
