I like the compostion a lot; it's like he's walking toward the viewer.

The picture seems to be oversharpened, however; the white lines at the edges are distracting ...

For interest sake. Saw a great form of wall hanging the other day. was made up of a long hollow box, on half of it wiht a flourescent tube-light in it. This was covered by a long piece of flat metal so you dont see the light. on the other side was a slot where you could insert a sereis of slides in a line. . the inside was painted white so the lights reflects to shine through the slides. Makes a great wall hanging!!!

Thanks for the comments and tips. But remember, this was her costume for halloween, I didn't ask her to apply the make-up. And as far as the skin tone goes, that's exactly what her skin tone looks like. I guess I could use photoshop to help it a little....but do any of you know how to achieve that effect in the studio, without using post-shot fixes? I know how to use photoshop, but I would rather keep the original shot. thanks.

i going to agree with ivan on a lot of what he sed on this and the other photo in sted if you do not have the lighiting in your studo PS it it works well the skin duse need work i find that if you use the blur tool on it it helps bring the skin flows down and helps blind things try picking a skin tone you like and then in PS make a new laer put it on coler this is hepfull for making small ajust ments with out a lot of hasal i think you are on the right track thow with your posing and croping

Martin, I think the color cast on the background is simply from shadows cast from your lighting. Getting a pure white background is difficult, I hear. I think the trick is to put two lights directly on the background in addition to your subject lighting. I'm sure other fashion photogs would know more about this than me, though. Nice shot -- a little grainy, but I like it. Very nice work.

Very cool! I'll have to try that lightbox thing. The blue tint could be from the lightbox on the scanner if this isn't on the originals. If it is on the originals, it could be a cast from the combo of your lighting and background material, or it could be from the coating on your lens causing glare. I'm pulling at straws on that one.... I suppose it's possible though. Did you use a filter? I noticed you're using a 28-300 lens. I used to get those dark corners when I used a cheap (Sunpak--stay away from these!) polarizer, and it was especially noticeable with my 28-105mm lens. Just a thought. Let us know what you figure out about this. I will be interested to know the cause. Great shots, by the way.

Martin

I think this kind of makeup is not matching the model. She is beautiful, but not a romantic type, so by applying lots of visible make you bring it up even more.

The skin tone definitely needs improving and the picture texture is little too grainy. Also you cut her hand and left only one finger and in my opinion it makes the picture unfinished.

I never work in a studio, so please forgive me for my comments

I guess I should have gone to your comment first as it took me a couple of minutes to figure out what I was looking at. I think if you would lower your perspective so that you have translucent blinds above and below the opening, it would help a lot. There is no detail in the hand. You might try taking two exposures - one for the interior and one for the exterior and then sandwiching them together.

Personally I feel the grain doesnt fit the style and the lightcolours (green) and the colour of her lipstick, and the flashy white in the rest of the photo. But maybe I'm being to conservative here. Also on my monitor the blacks are a bit too dark.

Other than that I like the pose and the crop. I'm not really moved by her expression. Again maybe a stronger, more imposing expression might fit the light(colours) better.

I'd better not let either of my cats see this; they already feel they own the rest of the house. This might give them greedy ideas about my last sactuary!

I like the grain, the crop, the framing, the subject... all of it. Going into my favs!

Good job!

Fantastic! You really captured the essence here. The lighting, symmetry, grain, and selective focus are just right. Also, the toothbrush and other items in the periphery give this shot a certain raw legitimacy -- Without them the photo might appear sterile and contrived.

Excellent work.

Oooo, this made me smile! What a great capture. The kitty even has a catch light in his/her eyes! I don't mind the objects on the counter as they add an air of authenticity to the photo. As well, the objects are balanced; one on each side of the sink.

I agree with Beverly about the objects on the top right and left of the photo. So many cats like to sleep in the bathroom sink. I wonder if it's the coolness of the porcelain, or the cuddly effect of the sink around them. The contrast adds to this photo, but I think the grain hurts it. I've never seen that much grain from TMax. I just love that superior expression on your cat's face. Well done.

another cool one. I think I like the other one a little better because you get more facial expressions. I'm trying to figure out how you are getting green on one side and red on the other... two flashes set on opposite sides? was the room completely dark? I'm going to have to try something like this, hoefully it will turn out half as good as these.

When I saw the thumbnail image I immediately wanted to see the larget one. Anyone who has ever had a cat can appreciate this! nice contrast, and you caught a truly "I am king or queen of this house" cat expression. Am I right that the upper right and left corners are miscellaneous things on the countertop? Perhaps it might be better without those. Great photo!

This is a very dramatic shot. I love the dof and the texture - but it seems to have a pink tone to it when I look at it. I'm not sure if it's from the scan or a reflection?

I had a cat once that did this exact thing!...how funny. I love the feel of the picture in that the focus is on the cat's face as well as the relaxed expression in the eyes. Is there something about bathroom sinks that cats know and we don't?

Great job capturing some of your cat's personality. Kind of a "whadda you lookin' at". I'm suprised at the amount of grain in the back of the sink for a T-max film.

I like the pose and the lighting, but Joe seems to have a pink cast on him. Not sure why, but I took him into PS and added a layer of light green with 10% opacity. Made him flesh coloured again, but it did take away some of the cool background.

The lights are all streetlights. This was shot outdoors in downtown Dothan. And I agree, I wish it wouldn't have covered her eyes.....but then again, it kinda ads a little something as well. Anyway....thanks for the comments.

Martin,

These are fun shots indeed! I wish that the stream of light had not covered her eyes. What did you use as a light source to make the light stream? I have done the same in a black and white photo experiment. I'll try again someday. Keep it up!

I'm torn between to focal point too. I think both would work. The hooded figure does resemble a monk. Very cool.
