Thanks, everyone, for kindly commenting.
Garold, it seemed that the treatment worked for this particular exposure, with its light and composition, but not with any others.

A beautifully balanced and measured composition, Ian,with a perfect triangle formed by the post, the distant edifice (lighthouse?) and the sun. The beautifully lit sand patterns in the foreground lead the eye into this area, allowing the tide pool to take over and persuade the eye onto the horizon and exquisite sky. Pure class!

There's a great deal to enjoy here, not least in the position of that wonderful boat and that extraordinary sky. I would suggest a straightening of the horizon just a bit and perhaps crop of a small section from the bottom of the frame.

The foreground and composition have some very special qualities about them which help to make this landscape very striking. The delicate light adds great depth and dimension to the scene. I wonder if a grad might have helped a little to address that slight brightness in the sky.

Very rarely does a sunset come out as well as this, Chris. Despite the fullness of that setting sun you've still managed to retain fine detail in that remarkable sky. The silhouettes of the monument and hill are well positioned. If I had one slight reservation, it would be that I might have preferred to see the sun positioned a little further away from the monument, and so provide a little more balance to the panoramic composition. Notwithstanding that minor point, I think this is a beauty.

Only very occasionally does an image come that along that defies superlatives. It's hard to know where to begin. The light on the stack and the way every conceivable detail stands out against that perfect stormy sky; the stack's reflection captured on a water surface that still manages to allow a view of the pebbles below; and the cobbles in the foreground - perfectly captured hues and textures. This is a classic, Ian.

There's something about the understated colours and tones of this landscape, John, that really help to enhance its graphic qualities. The forms, lines and textures of the rocks are particularly striking elements.

This is a cracking image. There's so much to enjoy : the atmospheric sky with the brighter element ideally placed to highlight the treetop; the central position of the tree; the sheep appearing to be calling back to its lamb. It's a hugely atmospheric image that delivers an enormous impact in much the same way a Victorian landscape painting might have intended to do. Awe-inspiring.

Very, very nice indeed. I like the way you've composed this to minimise the effects of what would otherwise have been a distractingly featureless sky, while that well-captured foreground speaks for itself. The spray misting the rock to the left is particularly striking.

I love this sort of subject matter, John. Terrific composition that foregrounds the finely lit texture of the rocks but without allowing them to dominate, while the fishermen (or should that be fisherboys!) provide an extra element to the scene. It's as well that they stood as still as they did during the 5 seconds exposure!

A very appealing subject and a very pleasing composition. I'd love to see how this would look in warm, early morning/evening light and with a sky that was a little less clear.

Thanks, Pietro and Branimir, for your kind comments.
I can't agree with you there, I'm afraid, Branimir. It's important in these conditions to place the foreground subject in a recognisable context. Placing the background out of depth-of-field would have removed that context and the environment that it needs. This is especially the case where the background in question is as prominent as it is in this frame. Many thanks, all the same, for your opinion: it is always valuable to hear other people's points of view.
Regards.

Mary Jane, you may well be right! All I can is that this was captured at the side of the narrow road leading upto the ski centre at Glencoe. I hope that helps.

What a fascinating image. The colours and details are really appealing. I'm in two minds about the composition, because I find myself wanting the tree and bicycle to be a little less central - perhaps positioned a little further to the left or right. But of course that may not have been possible if there were distracting elements that you wanted to avoid being captured in the frame.
