Nice shot Fred.. and it must have been dis-appointing to forget the tripod... But, this is a nice shot considering the circumstances...
Do you have images taken from the Canadian side or from the same side I did. Please post them..

I'm sorry, I forgot to post my comments when I uploaded this picture.
First of all, I traveled over 500 miles to Niagara and forgot my tripod. This shot was taken with the camera sitting onto of a trash can on the Goat Island overlook. I used a Sigma 70-300 lens with Fuji 200 film. Exposure was about 45 sec.
I learn from the comments that you leave. Please post.

Good exposure. Shame about the lack of sharpness in the foliage on the foreground.
As it is it is distracting while it could add a great framing to the picture.
Maybe a slightly wider crop (especially on the right side) would have been better too.

Wonderfully composed with beautiful lighting. A very fine nature image with very good natural colors. It seems to lack DOF and the large writing is very distracting from the beautiful scenery. This is only my opinion and no intention to offend you.
The framing is indeed very suitable for this picture.
