I like the fact that the toning doesn't affect the unexposed areas of white, which remain "pure" and bright. You caught the lighting just right on that ladder... fascinating.

I think I'd have to see the print to really get the full impact of this shot. I'll visit your site, Matej. Since learning about Slovakia's many good local wines, I've wanted to visit... so I find you subject very interesting.

I like it! I am delighted to see someone reference Stefan Rohner, he has an exceptional feel for portraits in particular. This is strong, all the patterns give good texture. You should definitely take this guy (R) again... model looks.

Perfect composition, especially interesting because of the angle. The precise alignment commanded a precise composition and this is what we have. An enigma stems from the absence of human being (while the chairs are obviously set for of very large audience) and the implied presence of the photographer.

Primes are great, aren't they! A lovely image, Matej. The line of the crop across the top couldn't be bettered--just perfect. I am very impressed with the person(s) who layed out those chairs so very precisely. Your photo wouldn't have been nearly as impressive with higgledy piggledy rows of chairs!

Matej, there are no security issues with photography in the subways in Japan, and if you choose the right time of day you can find less crowded platforms and escalators. Of course the crowding is a part of the scene, so one doesn't want to avoid it altogether. Jostling is a problem, though... unintentional but unavoidable.

I'm with Jeanette, the composition of the main is best. However! ....I prefer the darker tones of the 3rd version. Not sure if you are a cropping sort of guy, think the 3rd version will be nice in a squarish format without the background thingies.

You're right Christian, apart from the man in the white shirt on the left there is also a woman heading upstairs. The separation between shadows and lower midtones is (unsurprisingly) better in the print than in the scan, but as Audrey suggests, it may still pay off to dodge them a little when I make a proper print (the one I scanned this from is just a small proof print).

Yes, I'm sure 6x6 would suit this place well - and even if not, with that kind of negative size, you can crop till you drop. What are the possibilities in Japan of shooting in the subway? (in terms of number of people rushing past you, security issues, etc.)

Of this series, this is the one I prefer. It may well be because of its classic compositional qualities. Audrey : I see two persons, there is also one going up the stairs on the right, though very dark. The print must have a larger dynamic range.

Yes, I agree with Josh this set of three are really nice Matej. The shades and tones are very nice and the milky, shiny floor/ground really pops! Of the three, I like this one the best. My first thought was wish there was a person in the frame...but there he is!! I wonder if you might dodge 'him' a bit so that he stands out more?
