I very much like your street portraits. The depth of this one has me feeling I'm walking past the girl into the scene. Nice work.

I like the sombre lighting and mood of this shot. Perhaps a reflector to bring out a little more shadow detail in the chair and bed, but I really like this anyway. (and I can relate to it as I am in bed with a cold at moment!)

After all that trouble, I think you should shoot with a tripod!
Excellent and imaginatve idea, just the lack of sharpness has my eyes searching for a plane of focus.

Reminds me of those classic shots of Harry Dean Stanton on the railway tracks in the film Paris Texas.

175 views so far... vibrant, contrasty B&W photos with good tonal range are always popular aren't they...?

- PS: lol about Melbourne, Byron would be a great UseFilm location... perhaps you should organise a "rebel" get together

Even though there are elements in the previous shot that some might conclude make it a "better" photo, I find this one more appealing. The other one has a more classic aesthetic, but this image is less orthodox and more interesting in terms of storytelling and the captured moment. I like the impression of her storming off for the serious business of playing. The adult in centre frame is a little distracting, but that's the nature/luck of street photography.

Don't mind me, just thought I'd have a little play with the channels to see what it looked like... This is the cyan channel with a little sharpening and contrast.
Like the perspective you've chosen here and feathery detail on the icy branches. More nice work from the G5.
I had a laugh when I first saw the thumbnail of this - I read the "r" in the 2nd word of the title as a "t"... (I'd just been reading an annoying email from an old ex of mine. LOL )

Excellent detail Kriss and lovely lighting, colours and clarity. The wings have a luminous quality about them that almost makes them look computer generated, like in Toy Story etc.. Nice work.

Ouch that looks cold... it's 35C (95F) here today, so off to the beach again soon to cool down...
Excellent composition, I like the perspective and framing with trees. I'm not sure if it was in the original shot, or lost in subsequent digital workflow, but a little more tonal range (if possible) in rocks and clouds (at expense of ice highlights perhaps) would have been nice.

Now we're cookin'... As you know, I'm not normally a big fan of PhotoArt but I like what you've done here and how it was thought out and how the different lighting aspects controlled.

Great expression you've captured here from what looks like a very interesting character. Very strong engagement with the viewer but the relationship of the person with the background is perhaps not as harmonious as it could be. Perhaps a slightly lower viewpoint and adjusting the timing with the passers-by would help.

Nice composition idea with one head turned and one facing. Sharpness could come up a touch. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be the urban myth that comes to life... (where the new cat turns out to be a weird breed of Indonesian rat that runs amok when everyone's sleeping... hehe)

A classic close portrait crop with sympathetic pose. The warm lighting has brought out the skin textures well. The blown highlights, which Mary pointed out, would be less of an issue in a high contrast B&W version. Dropping the aperture to remedy this would also have helped with DOF.

This is an excellent child's portrait Kriss. The strong close crop, frozen cheeks and cute eyes have been mentioned in other comments, but my favourite thing is the light. Just a little spot on the hair and a soft brush across the cheeks subtly enhances the tonal range of this image. I like how the light delicately colours the fur hat on the right hand side.

- Is this the same little girl in the photo that I got in trouble for changing in Photoshop a few months back?

I agree with Ray points.
I do like the photo and the subject is one of my favs, but as you say it can be improved. There's also something I can't quite put my finger on, but the angle (perspective?) of the legs in relation to the feet is not entirely pleasing. But maybe this is just a result of the shallow DOF blending into the background?

Of the series, I prefer this version, mainly for the pleasing arrangement of lines and shadows within the chosen crop. I'm a bit suspicious that the scanning and/or post processing hasn't done the original photo justice. While I very much like the composition and subject matter, the three images presented here seem to have lost detail and dynamic range whilst gaining noise and jpeg artefacts. (This doesn't matter as much if it's just the toning you want people to comment on, but it does make it a little harder to critique objectively.)

I think the softness is appropriate given the subject (although the foreground detail in the hair makes my eyes search for a plane of sharp focus but that's just me... lol) Great expression caught here with those cherubic lips, expressive fingers and inquisitive eyes. The B&W treatment adds an nice antique feel - almost expect to see the Aeroplane Jelly bouncing ball sliding across the bottom...

That is a great abstract! I thought you had used Photoshop to alter some wrapping paper so this a great "natural" result. Well spotted... I can also see the hug! Still not quite sure what the bowl would really look like... (although I can see a tiny corner of brown in the top right - but that's just being waaay too picky, yeah?!) Have been at a cricket competition all week so still way behind with my New Year's wishes!!
