The colours are so rich and promising... while it rains here I wish I was there!
It looks like there is a lot of grain in this image... perhaps from scanning?
If you have Photoshop you can use the DESPECKLE filter and it will clean it up somewhat... reduce a bit of the grain.
I really like your composition, with the patch of beach in the foreground and the mountains in the background. Looks like an amazing place to be!

I really wanted to take some good black and white photos. The color shots in Yosemite don't always have the same appeal as the grayscaled images. The color photo was kind of bland. So you'll see some of my Yosemite photos in color and some not. I think that both forms of art speak for themselves in certain situations. You'll see my color photos, as they're being developed, as soon as they arrive. I'll see how I like the color shots, and if I don't like them, make them grayscale, and see what I can do with them. I think each photo has individuality, no matter how you take the shot. The final product may just need a little work.

Another great shot! But about the second comment for this photo (about colour) - I think when it comes to photographing on B&W film (or converting it to greyscale) in a place like this, you leave yourself open to a lot more criticism because the second you say Yosemite and B&W in the same sentence people immediately think - Ansel.

I like this in monochrome but if you are shooting digital it is already colour (color in American english)so I think it is important not to discard a colo(u)r image simply because you want black and white. Sometimes the most stunning image is the one you didn't intend to take at all.

Great shot, and all the best setting up your darkroom.

Wow, this is really good! I am in the midst of a black and white course as a subject in my first year of Uni - Photography degree of coures. I love the simplicity of this shot and the texture is great - have you had any experience in the darkroom?

Anyway, I love this, despite its simplicity, it works.

I really like the strong diagonal here and the trees and rocks in foreground give it a sense of (grand) scale. Is it any wonder Ansel was so attracted to this place? Well done, Tyler. Best wishes, Kurt

I was going for the silhouette of the mountains and the washing out of the light. In photoshop, I can clean the light out, and show more detail, but that's not what I wanted to do. Thanks for the critique. I appreciate you looking at my work.

I can't quite make my mind up.

On the one hand I find it quite evokative and give me sense of the grandeur. On the other hand, I find myself almost squinting because I can't see things properly.

I guess that means it's having an "effect" but I'm not sure if I enjoy it.

Hi Tyler,

no comment? no option for me ;-)

I find this one quite interesting as one normally would expect a colorful image. brave decision to fight against the klischees =)

While I do like the image composing (it actually looks more like water than sky), you should think about the general softness of the image. Just to give you a rough idea, I enclose a quick rework from my side.

the back lighting from the sun is a bit unusual here (remember the bw setting), but I think it creates a special contrast here.

Hope I helped a bit.

Take care,
Thilo
