Well first off I'll admitt I'm an old hippie, man I haven't heard that word in years...lots of years.
What I was trying to say is, anyone that can take pictures as good as you has to feel it way down deep in their soul. So to keep your inner self happy you need to shoot and shoot often!!!
You Dig it?? :-)

You'll have to elaborate on the "feed your soul" comment, I do not speak Hippie. :)

Thanks! I did take the shot at the full 300mm and it was very tough to get the shot sharp. Two things helped:

First, my other hobby is target shooting. If you shoot a camera the same way you would shoot a rifle, it helps keep it steady.

Second, I shot continously for about 10 frames. Only about half came out well.

I appreciate the comment!

Nice photo. Looks a lot like the one I took a while back. Your horse is wearing # 2 just as mine was. Check it out. http://www.usefilm.com/image/1100999.html

Well from looking through your gallery I would say you not only need to pick that camera up more often but you also need to feed your soul.
Believe me, I see it in your photos.

Thanks, Brielle. I did crop it to make it look panoramic. There was a lot of dead space at the top and bottom of the frame. We had such an incredible time in Yellowstone, I nearly wore my camera out that day.

This is the first lightning that I have been able to capture. It is tough. Especially if you come from an area with few thunderstorms and lots of light polution, like me.

wow, this is awesome. I really love how it looks panoramic as well...did you crop it, or how is that? Very neat photo, I always try to capture lightning and it never really works. kudos.

Thanks for asking, Ron. I have to admit, I hacked this one a bit. I was there to watch my brother-in-law play and just wound up grabbing the camera and snapping a few.

I did not actually use my 80-200mm lens, as the picture states. I used my 50mm f/1.8. @ 1000 ISO. No flash, of course, and half of the lights in the gym are off. It was the only lens I have that's fast enough.

The original was cropped to about 50% of its original area, as I was a bit further from the basket than normal. (didn't feel like dodging sweaty teenagers this day)

I also used noise reduction filter in PS since the high ISO made a LOT of noise in the darker spaces. I'm guessing that the cumulative effect of using manual focus, cropping and enlarging, and the noise reduction filter is responsible for the softness. Thanks for your comments!

Nicely timed. A bit soft though. 1/250 should have been fast enough. Did you move? or use monopod.
