yes, michelle, i was a gladiator in a previous life. and if people don't like me taking their picture i just beat the crap out of them.
seriously... just relax and don't act like you're doing something you shouldn't be. be quick about it too and don't fiddle around with your camera. i preset exposure and pre-focus many times. that way taking someone's picture is not a great intrusion because it's over so quickly.
follow the nike slogan - just do it. the more yo do it, the braver you get. ;>)

I'm a little surprised too, Giuseppe. I sincerely appreciate the honor but, personally, I like my black and white work better

Michelle: It's hard to beat Leica M cameras for street photography. So quick and quiet... and the lenses aren't too shabby either.
Cheers,

Thanks Amie Lynn. This was a purely spontaneous shot. The sign and the couple caught my eye at the same time. I quickly pre-focused and only got this one shot.

Thanks Amie Lynn. This is just a dog I happened to encounter one morning in the French Quarter. I like dogs.

Matej:
Someone - a Frenchman - once pointed out to me that Doisneau had done a photo of a dog with a similar device. While I am familiar with Doisnea's work, I can't recall ever having seen that photo. It would be much appreciated if someone could provide me with a link to Doisnea's photo.
FWIW, this dog was standing alone, waiting for its master, on a busy, narrow sidewalk in New York. The sidewalk was under repair which is why the dog is standing on a textured steel surface. I knelt down and tried to engage the dog before taking the shot. However, the dog stared straight ahead and ignored me. I took a few exposures, with people stepping over and around me, but the dog still stared straight ahead. Then, as if it finally decided to give me the shot I wanted, he lifted his head and stared out into the distance with a noble look and I got the shot.
Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments.
