They do sound like hummingbirds. I chased it around a garden forever to get just a few shots. I did not realize it was not a hummingbird until I looked at the pictures.

Nice capture, Ben! For your information, what you have here is called a Hummingbird Hawk Moth. I just learned this myself a few days ago... check this one out: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1341031 Oh, and I read where they sound like hummingbirds when they fly so I can see how you thought that is what it is. Nicely placed splash of yellow and red against the dull background. The bee really looks busy at work. Perhaps a little soft on the flower centre where it should be sharpest (the point of focus in this very shallow dof seems to be just a little nearer to the camera) but I've come to realise how difficult outdoor flower macros can be.
