oh my..... apparently you misunderstood my compliment. In saying "you nailed it" ... I meant you captured the moment perfectly. And by saying "so deep", i mean it is a rich shot with lots of meaning. hope your day gets better... :-0

Love this photo! I'm about to graduate and this brought back memories of high school, and trying to open my combination lock only to find it was stuck. I took a similar photo (or rather tried to) a couple years ago but it came out nowhere near as good as yours.

pretty good, it's just a lack of honesty somehow... i don't know, if the girl is happy, what is her motivation ?

If I were forced to pick a favourite, It would be this one, because it shows the natural beauty of the girl, as well as the crude reality within the contrast, grain and exposure. Cigarettes and booze - great combination.... This one has the strongest emotional contrast of the lot.
Cheers,
Hugo

Hi Nicole, I think this is one of the most powerful series I've ever seen. It's wild - recognisable, with a mixture of ultimte freedom and depressiveness, if you see what I mean.
With the first image you asked us which one we would pick as the best image in this series, but I think that's besides the point; a good series is stronger and more powerful than the individual photos it's composed of. And that is, IMO the case here. Selecting a favourite would pull it out of it's sequence, disrupting the unity between the shots.
That was the spiritual explanation.
More realistically, I think it's very difficult to pick the best one, as they're al (almost) equally powerful and good. But also, all quite far removed from being perfect (photographically as well as aesthetically), and that's what makes them so strong, as it emphasises the mood and feel - it doesn't take a perfect photo to be a winner, I believe. I'm becoming more and more convinced the artistical merit of a photo or series is to be found within the mood and the feel of an image, sketching the story and narrative, and the technical quality is a subsidiary element or bonus. Hope this all makes sense...
Cheers,
Hugo

Congrats on the double award Nicole. I don't feel nearly so bad about not being able to offer any constructive advice on how to improve this now that I read Hugo's comment. Apparently it can't be done. Nice shot.

Hi Nicole, This is exactly how I remember the Mountain when I woke up in Paradise lodge, and drew the curtains apart. The low mist with the impressive sight of the snowy peak of Rainier towering out above th clouds. Very good shot...

Back in college. Don't want to be there, but I have to; I'm sucked back in when I look at this photo. Very well captured, and a school book (pun intended) example of shallow DoF. The tonal range, just a bit clipped, assists in creating the feel perfectly; don't think there's a different choice to be made here. Even if you had the opportunity, colour wouldn't have been as strong, nor would a red filter or different film - spot on in all aspects. Woudn't know where to start, it just all adds up. Rock solid shot!
Cheers,
Hugo

I like the atmosphere and the silhouettes. I think the image could have been better if there was something the view on the left side. It is already in the photograph, since i can see a hint of red/brown in the lower left. Probably overexposing by one stop could have made it more clearly visible.
