I'm thinking about hiring you as my agent.

Your photo is what reminded me of my photo (actually taken in 2004).

Shadow would rather chase rabbits than be one.

I admit I had to look that one up. You're definitely a "deep thinking" individual and after a review of your portfolio I think you have some wonderful photos.

I have a much more narrow focus about the craft and I found your sharp shinned hawk to be amazing.

Thanks for the comment (I think)

A beautiful bird, shot, composition. Crayfish isn't bad either.

You are correct! After reading your comments I went outside and called the birds in for a re-shoot.

How's this?

OK - Thanks for clearing that up. Copy this URL into your browser. http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek050501.html

About halfway down the page on the right side you'll see a photo of a nuthatch's foot. Just to the left of the photo is text explaining (better that I) how they can do that.

Actually these are quite common in this area. They are hard to capture because they never stay still. I think a shot from the side like this shows the beauty of the insect. I also think the tail looks something like a crawfish or lobster.

Thanks for your kind comment Joanna. I'm sorry but I don't understand your last words "and how is it possible?"

You're correct, Joann. I was going to try a 300mm but all of a sudden the buterfly bush got busy with creatures and I decided to shoot with the 400mm instead.

I love to shoot hummers. I've also noticed that I haven't seen any males here for about 2-3 weeks so I guess early migration has started here.

Thanks Dave.

I used a flash but it was on the camera (SB800) The distance was 8 meters. After reading your comment about the focus I went back and found the flower site and it's confusing too. The flower is actually in the background but growing to the foreground. The flower out of focus is in the foreground about 18" in front of the bird. I focused on the bird's eye.

Thatks for your comment.

Good shot Roberto. It's important to feed the squirrel. It helps take away that gamey taste

Andre, the bill was that bright. Birds are very much like people. We all have color variations. Some are due to age. Some are due to diet. I think the fill flash helped eliminate the frontal shadows that would have been there without the flash. Thanks for your comments.

I like this shot and after seeing the shutter speed I was amazed. The center appears to be a fast action stop whereas the sides are blurred by the motion. How did you accomplish that?

I really appreciate your comments. Thank you for taking the time. I've been looking at yout portfolio and you have some really good looking shots there. Please don't hesitate to make critical comments as well. I really need a sharp eye from a different perspective good or not.

I agree Paula and was glad to see your comment. I was about 500 feet from the bird and believe I was at the threshold of either my or my lens capabilities (or both). The bird was huge for a red shoulder hawk (probably a female) but I did feel the composition was interesting.

Thanks for your critique, I need more.

Thanks for the nice comments. I love eagles (they taste like chicken). I've rescued several and they're as very powerful as they look. Here's a photo shot as I was exiting the woods with an eagle that took us over an hour to rescue. I was really worn out by then.

Your photos are great. My wife and I want to take a trip to Alaska to see these guys.

Thanks for the suggerstion Bryan. The D70 is more of a computer than a camera and the learning curve is going to be longer than I expected it to be. I'll be waiting fot the hummers return to put your suggestions into practice.

I really appreciate the critique and encourage more of it.

Beautiful Oriole!. Great color and definition too. Please share with me the sizes as you posted the photo (ie., 500x600 x200 kb?) Ironically I live near Baltimore and you uys have more Orioles than we do. Give 'em back!

Thanks Peter. I used a Bogen tripod (they're almost heavy enough to need a second person to lug it around). The new adapter for the D-70 is on order and I'm really excited about the possibilities using digital over 35mm.

Thank you Margaret. They are a very powerful bird both in symbol and physically. I've rescued about a dozen or so and although they weigh only about 12 pounds or so they can give you a workout keeping away from the beak and talons.
