Okay, here is my cut at it below. Changes I made were to brighten the green in levels but not the curve. Same thing with blue. That got the bride's dress to white. No change to overall saturation. Unsharp mask of ~ 23 with a radius of 8 and 0 for the range. that bumps up "local micro contrast" Unsharp mask again of 80 with a radius of 0.5 and 0 for the range to do ordinary sharpness. Free advice is worth what it costs.

I could love living in Alberta if either they stopped having winter or hadn't spent the last 30 years living in sunny southern California. Your image reminds me of one of my own that my wife loves from when we lived in a climate such as yours. fond memories. Thanks for kick starting my memory! John B

Odd how one man's hover is another man's 'what the heck is holding that up' viewpoint. I read the email from you before seeing your crop, so I cropped it myself. REALLY didn't like it. Ah well. What the wall did do was bounce a lot of infra red up into the rafters and that is what gives it that luminous touch. Thanks for offering the ideas. now I'm off to a tattoo festival. John B

Gary, its strange that you posted this just now. I am taking a class in photography and the subject is inspiration - what inspires us to make images. I had been thinking about this and a tentative conclusion was texture. I am attracted to seeing the photograph be able to capture the texture of what I am seeing. This came from my days playing with a view camera and from ultra fine grain films. Sometimes I see it in digital images but only rarely and almost never when we get down to 800 pixels. So in that sense, your images just tease us, you are the only one seeing what is more than likely wonderful in your images. Just felt like sharing. Happy new year. John B

There is more that can be done here. I like the basic shot you have. You could rotate the camera to get the water going diagonally. You might step back a bit to get the whole head. and you might take a slow shot on a tripod to stream out the water. You are right, the title says it all. Happy new year - JB

Beautyfull, but it is still ICE. I hate ice. Ice is dangerous. (I fell and was badly injured on ice). Ice is best in drinks, keeping perishable food cold and in lovely photographs. Well done. I have seen similar work done with crystalized beer! I love beer...... thanks for stopping by John B

I would remind both you and Tim the among the 'junk' left on the moon are a number of Hasselblads and Nikons. No doubt a collector would pay a pretty penny to own one of those! Only the film came back, the rest was too heavy and on no use! JB

In the mid '70 I helped teach a class in photography and optics. As a lab experiment we demonstrated that even then the lenses by and large outperformed most films and shooters. Glad you are happy with the camera. JB

Sorry for taking so long to reply sir, but my life has not been my own and frankly I am too lazy for my own good. I like the M8 tremendously. It is not for the financially faint of heart but it delivers quite nicely. There are none of the auto focus bells and whistles but it does do a dark image subtraction for long exposures. I guess what I like the most is the light weight, small size and intuitive (for me) controls while preserving killer optics. I find myself cropping more because the image can survive it. The longer lenses clearly show how digital sensors have less dof than film, but you can change film speed by the frame. In short, I love it. Thanks for stopping by. John B

Ah, the memories... Old Town Canoes from Old Town, Maine. next to the Penobscot Indian reservation. Nearly got killed there riding a bike while going to graduate school at UMO. On a critical note, the canoe is nicely placed top to bottom but I would like to have seen abit more room on the left. Do like the water trailing off the lead canoe'rs paddle. Season's best wishes. john B
