Hi Laurie - it was sort of recent, last week of January. I drove to Las Vegas last week and there were a few wild flowers along I-15 at the lower locations. The web can be your guide as to what is going on now. JB

Hey John, Interesting shot you got here. Like the PS FX! Was it a recent shot. Looking forward to going there soon to see the spring flowers blooming. Take care. LD

Dmitri - The M8 is superb. The electronics are much better than the R9 DMR and I like its smaller size and weight. It is not a body for telephotos or macros however. I have no complaints.

You are right. The ISS is not visible. In order to keep the pier lights under control I had to stop down too much to reveal the ISS. Also It was much higher in the sky and was out of the field of view of even the 19 mm!. Thanks for commentings

I can't see the space station, but You got a good picture out of it anyway. Great shot with excellent exposure. Everything seems to be well balanced, the dark sky the pier lighting even the reflections in the water. Congratulations, well done. 7/7

Traffic there is insane at that time of day!
There must have been at least one car!
The climb is modest but easy for most, afterall you start at almost below sea level. If one turns around 180 degrees you see Manley beacon which most mis identify as Zabrisky point. Nice to hear from you fella. JB

And it looks as if the lone photographer had to do a lot of clambering to get to his unusual viewpoint! How frequent is the traffic, I wonder...

Steve - thanks for the suggestion. I don't know that I want drama. I did play with contrast alot and ended up with what you see. it is fun to see how the emotional content varies with dynamic range. Thanks again for the insight.

A really fine capture, John. I do think the generally even tones detract from the drama of the action. You might consider converting to grey scale and playing with the contrast a bit to heighten the drama. I've attached a very quick example of what I mean.

Really? Its not MY eyeball. It belongs to my son! Good to see you posting again, I missed your work. I finally get to do the eastern Sierra in January on a trip to Reno that I am planning. Will be posting some smokey sunsets over the next few days. Hope you were safe, we were.
