Very distinctive! And a great subject for a panorama...

Thanks, Janina. The weather was superb, the flowers were in nearly full bloom, and the crowds were having a great time--as I was! Nice memories...

Hmmm. No need to hurry, as far as I can see. You shouldn't have any problems for years and years... Pleased to meet you, Andree! I have the same problem of usually being behind the camera but have a much better excuse for not letting anyone take me.

Oh next time, tell you friend to get your feet in!

Dream seascape. I mean, if you're going to use a long exposure, it's good to make it really loooong and smooth out all the waves. Well done!

This is definitely a northern latitude sunset. We don't get them like that down here in Japan (about the latitude of N. Africa). Love the wavelets... they really help make the picture, give it some movement/life.

Wow, that takes me back a few years. Used to get into Nyecassel on the weekend, after working in Hebburn and digging in Jarrow. You've captured more of the grimy mood I knew so well 50 years ago, and not the bright new city it has become (well, in parts, anyway).

I think the B&W of this one works better than the colour of your second "sleeper" (where the grass is rather over-exposed). You say say sleeper, but his eyes are open. Of course many people can sleep with their eyes open; perhaps he was one?

Thank you, as always, Nanda. On reflection I don't think this one is quite up to the standard of the others but it was exceptionally difficult to stitch, and that made me think it MUST be good... but I now prefer the others in this series.

Thank you Gabriella. Sometimes the "about" is better than the photo... [grin] I see you are not a donor. If you donate to Usefilm you can get to see the much bigger original files for panoramas. This one is 900 pixels high as I uploaded it and 4,000 pixels high as I stitched it.

I still think a bit of selective sharpening could be a help in getting JPG size down under the 400k limit. We've all seen how much bigger JPG files are after any sharpening of the image. I tend these days to limit the vertical pixel dimension to about 1,000, as most people (me included!) don't like to scroll vertically. Resizing the original image to that and only then thinking about minimal sharpening can reduce the file size quite a lot... But you probably know all this already. Oh yes, you can also apply sharpening via a mask that excludes areas that don't need it, like sky and clouds, which are over half of this superb panorama...

What an unusual building. All windows, walls and roof--no doors! Makes a great picture... So what happened in 1453?

Beautiful image. It looks as if we can see through his eyes into his soul. I love the way that Dania is little more than a shadow... and in lovely soft focus, but still makes her presence felt. This is really fine! Congratulations!!

As an inveterate lover of the panorama format I can't help feeling those wonderful waves might have looked more impressive with rather less of those beautiful clouds showing... What a wonderful colour the sea is!

This is an incredibly beautiful photo. Just the kind of thing I'd like to frame and put on my study wall... It's a little too square for that, perhaps. But then I tend to prefer the panorama format...

This is a very unusual and beautiful shot. What are those round things hanging down? Are they lights that will go on after sunset?

I am sorry you lost your azaleas. They need acid soil, and plenty of water to remain healthy. You would love Nezu. One nice thing about Japanese crowds is that they are very good natured and patient, no pushing and shoving. But when it is so crowded it is very difficult to take panoramas!

Thank you, Nanda. I see you are not a donor to Usefilm, which means you cannot see the full-size version of this panorama (about 3,600 x 1,200 pixels). The original is actually quite sharp, but Usefilm reduces it in size and this produces the softening you see. At least, that's MY excuse (grin). If you would like to see the original, I could send it to you... Even this is softer than the original because of JPEG artifacts, but it would give you a better idea of image quality.

This is an impressive record of the conditions under which these men and women--mostly women--must work. The lighting is very harsh, which makes it difficult for the photographer, but somehow the harshness of the lighting emphasizes the harshness of the work.

That's an interesting comment, debdatta, as the pool of light and the little tree standing in it were the real reason why I took this shot! I think it provides a focus or center of interesting. I am sorry you find it distracting but I appreciate your comment! Thanks...

Carsten, I remember when you were stitching two 28mm shots together to create a wider angle view. Now you are doing it with a 15mm lens! Have you tried full-frame fisheyes? Or stitching spherical panoramas? These are as far as you can go in the wide-angle direction, and a lot of fun is to be had along the way!

Three cheers for the Sigma 10-20mm zoom! Great use of the strong perspective in this one. So glad to see it get Photo of the Day. I enjoy stitching spherical panoramas of the insides of churches!
